Strong speaker line up at The Gold Symposium, Sydney

by Caroline Wiroth on November 28 2011

The Gold Symposium at Luna Park, Sydney, last week was a big success. The Gold Symposium presented a strong speaker line up including Eric Sprott, Ben Davies and John Embry as well as an extensive list of exhibiting mining companies.

Interesting best practice modelling discussions, dodgem cars and slippery slide rides

Corality had a great time at The Gold Symposium. In addition to interesting discussions around best-practice financial modelling, debt advisory, transaction support and precious metal investment opportunities, we also had the opportunity to drive the Luna Park dodgem cars and ride the slippery slide – who would have thought conferences could be this much fun!

A big thank you to Kerry Stevenson at Symposium for organising this great event and to everyone who came to visit us in our exhibition booth - it was great meeting you all and thanks again for the positive feedback and interesting questions. We hope you found The Gold Symposium useful and that we were able to show you some of the tips and tricks that we use to build best practice financial models in Excel.

Many people at The Gold Symposium asked us for a copy of the Excel model we used for our Excel workshops. We believe more people could be interested in this so we have put together a little “goodie bag” including:

  • Corality’s best practice Excel demo model
  • Corality’s Excel shortcut sheet – start using Excel shortcuts
  • Information about our training courses

Corality’s best practice Excel demo model

Download the best-practice Excel demo model we used at The Gold Symposium to illustrate how to build best practice financial models for mining projects. It highlights the benefits of modelling the SMART way, the importance of building flexible and transparent models and the benefits of focusing on model presentation to increase usability. We hope that you will find the user-friendly model structure useful for your financial analysis.

Corality’s Excel shortcut cheat sheet

Remove your dependence on using your computer mouse when working in Excel – download your Excel shortcut sheet.

Using Excel shortcuts will help you:
(1) Increase your modelling productivity and save you time and money
(2) Improve your work posture and prevent strain associated with RSI (repetitive strain injury)

Corality training courses – get ready for your next challenge

We saw a lot of interest in our Financial Modelling for Mining Projects course during The Gold Symposium. Many of the exhibitors and delegates at the event were interested in learning more about how to build a mining centric financial model to evaluate the economics of mining projects.

Corality’s Financial Modelling for Mining Projects course covers the core Excel and Scenario skills required to efficiently and professionally analyse, communicate and update the progress of a mining project. The course is presented by experienced mining project modellers and is focused on how a project finance banker or external party would analyse a mining project.
